When confronted with the choice of A.) waiting tables, and B.) dancing erotically for grabby patrons, Ariel found that his choice would always, undoubtedly be A. He was not so lucky this evening, as he was slated to work the late shift only, which meant wiggling around in a speedo or other skimpy, yet demeaning clothing. The tips would be good; they were always better at night than during the waiting tables portion of his job. Oh well. Job's a job.
Tautology aside (Ariel had just learned what a tautology was, and was very amused by them), he'd had the morning and afternoon to himself, which seemed always fairly routine.
Today, however, he'd break the norm. The poor man needed a change of pace, and a little relaxer from the more recent stresses of the Marines not paying for a secondary education for him due to his dishonourable discharge. This is how he found himself on the metro into midtown.
Ariel hoped to find a bookstore of some sort, so as to continue to restock his collection of books. It would certainly kill some time before his 9pm shift. Coffee wouldn't hurt either.

.MISTER LAVISH! ---- Of all his favorite ways to travel, public transport was undoubtably the top of his list. The people, the chatter he could strike up and the new accents to flaunt about in the descovery of new sterotypes. Lavi just loved it, and he settled in coszily into his seat, hands folded neatly into his lap as he just observed.
On his immediate right he'd managed to stuff his bag between himself and the paritian, the thin canvas containing everything he'd need to make it safely back to Sacramento, if his trip continued as it was. The little mink boy couldn't help but smile softly to himself even within the tight quarters.
It bored him slightly that there was an apparent lack of music, just a static laced intercom voice and other human jumble. It was uncordinated, and most of all, lacking him. He loved the transport for the ability to talk to people, but he couldn't help but become impaitent too, waiting for someone to greet him. He wasn't rude - these people seemed into their own things, and the brunette didn't want to impose.
He watched the ceiling for a moment, continuing his silent observation of New York transit. Certainly more crowded than anything he'd been on before. OOC; ... For some reason this post seems so odd. Huh. ;;

As the goal of his early trip out was to find a book, Ariel hadn't though to pack one with him. He sat quietly in his seat, quietly observing all the people around him. As he turned to his head to the right, he noted that the lad next to him, who looked just about high school or college aged, was smiling for no reason at all.
He had a ways to go before the train hit midtown, and no book. To this day, Ariel would never know what goaded him to ask: "...what're you smiling about?"
It didn't come out rude, or even forced. It was, for all intents and purposes, just an innocent and earnest question.

.MISTER LAVISH! ---- Lavi was still fixated on the ceiling when the voice came from somewhere on his left, the question causing him to smiler even wider as he turned to face the man. The brunette's grin turned goofy at the edges, taking in all that the man was showing. New York sure had interesting characters.
"All these people make me happy," he informed with a straight face, gripping the strap to his bag beside his leg, "Like being in a candy shop with a bunch of different flavors!"
It took all his devotion to stop from bouncing in his seat, egar to see what he could learn of this funny man. The patterns across his skin reminded him of a wild cat - the big scary orange ones. 'Tigers!' he told himself mentally, curling his fingers once more in attempts to remain a overall calm. OOC; Oh, Lavi. How I adore you.

"...I see..." Ariel nodded. The excitable youth seemed eager and bouncy, typically the sort of person that Ariel would avoid at all costs. But today was different, today was a break from his norm. The innocence about the brunette was surprisingly charming; innocence was something Ariel had long ago left behind. For the past few years he'd been distrustful and wary of all people, but Lavi seemed to remind him of himself when he was a child.
"You're not from around here, are you?" Ariel tried to smile, but it came out something along the lines of a smirk. The poor man was really quite awkward in any sort of social context."What brings you to this hellhole?"

.MISTER LAVISH! ---- Lavi tilted his chin upward slightly, nodding in response to the other man's same head movement. It was true, so he couldn't help but smile at the disbelief that seemed to linger in the words.
He couldn't help but wrinkle his nose slightly in displeasure at the harsh language about the seemingly awesome town, and the many highlife shops and superficial beings, the atmosphere of a big city. "No, I'm not," he responded, grey eyes lighting up at the bulkier man's comment despite the choice of words. "I'm just traveling through, I'd been up with my mother for a while but now I'm heading back home." The brunette stretched his legs out a bit in front of him in the small space he'd been alloted, examining his sneakers as if it'd hold all the answers to the world. "It's so much funner to take it all in steps, instead of just flying there, you know!"
Lavi's gaze came back to the man, and finally he freed a hand from his parcel strap to hold it out politely for a shake. "I'm Lavi," he informed brightly. OOC; This would of been done about... a hour ago if YuGiOh Abridged hadn't finally released Leather Pants.

"Ariel" He reached out and grasped the slender hand, giving it a solid pump. "I've been here most of my life, so forgive me if it doesn't seem all that great anymore."
He let the kid ramble a bit, slightly wincing at the use of the non-word. He was torn between correcting Lavi, and letting him go on it, which could very well mean that he would use 'funner' in all contexts forever. It was a tough choice.
"So, how're you getting to Sacramento without a plane?" For true, the guy didn't look like he was old enough to drive, let alone be riding on the metro all alone. "You spending more time up here, or are you going straight back to San Francisco?"
This was odd. Ariel took a mental step backwards to examine the situation and realized that this, already, was probably the longest conversation he'd had with anyone in years. The last thing he'd said to his parents to date was "See Ya.", whilst at work he tended to nod, shake his head, or shrug. He knew that it took a rare person to get him to talk these days; naturally, the logic meant that Lavi was obviously a rare person.
He smelled familiar, much like a cousin or a relative smells familiar, and the ridiculously sunny disposition (which normally would've sent Ariel moving at least two trains over), seemed to actually brighten his day just that little bit more,.

.MISTER LAVISH! ---- The contact felt odd, like a woolen blanket pressed to his soft palm. Lavi took it as a sign of a hard worker, and relaxed into the last moment of the hand shake before returning his fingers to his bag's strap. He didn't comment on how off the name seemed in relation to his appearance, studying the man's face for a moment before letting it connect fully with the name. Ariel seemed more like a predator - he knew it was more then his trailing tattoos that created this thought, too.
"Huh? Oh," he rolled from his tongue, caught off guard by the question, "Just a lot of train, bus, and taxi hopping. I've always moved around a lot, exploring on the weekends and such so this is nothing new," the brunette explained, tapping his heels to the dirty floor.
The mink boy took a careful minute to think out the answer to the second half though, just smiling softly as he pondered, fingering out routes mentally. "Was kind of hoping to spend the light hours looking around, then find a place to stay for the night. Dunno how long I'll be in town though, depends on how much I can see in one afternoon~" he trilled, eyes widening at the idea of new store fronts and shops to explore. "I have no set time I need to back, as I don't start school again till next summer~"
Lavi trailed off into his own little world for a moment, enjoying the prospects of his whole school year off between graduation and college, and he couldn't help but turn his face back towards Ariel. Although built sturdy - like a Ford truck, his commercialized brain chimed, he seemed fairly young if not aged mentally. His questions reminded him of a mother hen - who, what, where, when, why? and the brunette let out a sudden laugh. These were the types of games he played when meeting new people - guessing what they were inside their own homes.
Caught up in his own defining of a man he only had first impressions about, Lavi absentmindedly brushed hair away from his face with a neat swipe using the back of his hand.
OOC; This is such a game of tag.

Ariel tilted his head curiously as the lad rambled a little bit before fading into a curious little silence. The laugh was downright odd, and it took Ariel back a bit; there was clearly nothing to laugh about, yet this boy had just so immensely enjoyed one of his own thoughts, it caused him to laugh, with mirth, out loud.
"Well, if you haven't a place to stay the night, I can afford you a blanket and a pillow, at least." Ariel shrugged "I live over in Brooklyn, so if you still need a place, meet me at Santa Maria's, over in NoHo, off Bleecker St."
Again, this action completely surprised him. He was offering his home to a complete stranger he'd just met. A seemingly insane one at that. But unfortunately he couldn't deny his instincts. If they were telling him that this was an important person for him to meet, then he'd meet him. He He offered something of a smile again "Why'd you laugh? Is something funny?"

.MISTER LAVISH! ---- Lavi blinked innocently for a moment, lips parted slightly in surprise. Before he could respond with bubbly gratitude, Ariel continued on. "Jus' like to laugh. Makes everything so much more brighter... It lights everything up, like the sun in 'Itsy Bitsy Spider'!" He felt as if he'd been explaining a lot already to this man, the reason behind everything and how life's simple wonders worked.
Pausing for a moment, he watched the other people around them. He'd honestly been just planning to find somewhere secluded and dark, like a park, and curling up amongst the trees. Not native for a mink, but sizable to contain a large rodent. The brunette sighed a bit through his nose as he weighed different things in his head, clutching beyond his bag to pants leg. His eyes widened slightly as he strained his senses, trying his hardest to only focus on his companion beside him in the fray of people and mixed scents.
"Really? You'd let me stay? Thanks so much! Santa Maria's," he repeated, "NoHo, Bleecker St!" Lavi returned his usual broad smile, "When~? You can't just make me stand around all days, y'know~" The teenager couldn't help but tease slightly, picking up on how awkwardly the man seemed to talk and behave. OOC; N/A

"Oh...uh...I'll be finished by about 2:30 am. We'll catch a late metro over back to my place in Brooklyn. New York's a big city; you'll find something to do until then." He didn't really elaborated further. There was only a slim chance Lavi would be able to get into a 21+ place without proper ID, so at the very least, he wouldn't know what it was Ariel actually did for a living. Ariel, for whatever reason, felt more comfortable with that.
"Uh, so..." He addled his brain for friendly train banter "What...do you study at school?

.MISTER LAVISH! ---- Lavi almost gawked when the man told him 2:30 in the morning, but he couldn't disagree as yes, it did mean he'd have countless hours exploring. "Alright! I'll meet you there, then,' he confirmed with the same usual smile. "Oh~ well that's a bit complex to explain..."
------------------------------------------------------x
His bag was getting heavy on his shoulder, the added weight of a good days worth of shopping, exploring and trudging through crowded areas of people battering and bruising him and it's contents. Lavi was content though, one hand under the strap to ease it's weight, and the other before him balancing a styrofoam box. He was proud of himself, and the seeming small amount of cash he managed to blow, most somehow still in his pocket.
The brunette walked on his toes, a bit on cloud nine as he followed the instructions he'd been going over in his head for the last hour. It was five-to that time, and with a happy chortle he planted himself at the street edge, beside a weaning street light. The building loomed before him, and he just observed, box in hand.
OOC; Sorry, without a keyboard so this was rather hard to type and lame.

At exactly 2:30, as if he'd been counting down the minutes all evening, Ariel emerged from the Santa Maria. He looked a little disgusted with himself, and most certainly smelled of a mixture of his own cologne, the scents of several other people, and probably shame, if that had a smell.
He saw Lavi and nodded. Clad now only in a wife beater and jeans, his overshirt now residing in his backpack, he held out his hand offering to carry whatever was in the styrofoam box.
"I'll carry for you. Let's go."
Whether or not he received the box, he'd start walking towards the metro station, hoping to catch one of the last trains back out to Brooklyn.

.MISTER LAVISH! ---- Lavi rolled on his heels, letting out a small yawn as he waited. Through blurry eyes he recognized his new stranger-friend, and waved with his free hand, short and sweet about his head. He had to refrain from scrunching his nose a bit, the sharp pin pricks of heightened sense of smell tingling across his face. The brunette didn't ask though, instead squeaking happily when he offered to carry his box.
"Thanks~ It's for you, anyways," he explained with a smile, walking beside Ariel with little hops to his step to keep stride. "I figured food might be a nice payment, and It'll keep in the fridge for a few days, just a sub-and-a-half."
He looked proud of himself, smiling whimsically as if he was the most clever being on earth. In truth, he had gotten over zealous and ordered more than he could eat, but he was still considerate for bringing it back for his host. Not many people turn down food, anyways. OOC; Grrrr, keyboard.

Ariel's face softened considerably at the fact the box was a gift. '...Thank you. Appreciate it. Really." he said as he walked at his brisk pace. He pulled the first half sub out of the box and tore into it rigourously, like a man who hadn't eaten all day. All through his childhood, and his stint in the military, Ariel had always eaten voraciously, as if he feared not eating again the next day.
"'sgood" he said between mouthfuls. "Thanks. Food's good rent."
Not surprisingly, he finished both the sub and its half brother before they even got to the metro station. He neatly tossed the empty box into a trash bin before they jumped down into the dank subway station.
They managed to hop onto one of the last few trains headed out towards Brooklyn. It was decently crowded, mostly with drunkards just leaving the bars as well. Ariel found a seat and indicated Lavi to sit while he opted to hold the hand rail overhead. It wouldn't be too long of a ride home, but the kid looked tired. Ariel rolled his eyes at the thought of carrying the youngster down the 5 block walk to his apartment.
